Volunteer Policy
Fan-run conventions could not exist
without volunteers and Coastcon is no exception.
Everyone up to the staff and board (what other
cons call the con committee) is a volunteer. If
everyone had to be compensated, then we couldn't
survive with the rates we'd have to charge
people to get in! Volunteers are special people
who care about fandom and there are just never
enough of them.
Now,
to the particulars
-
Volunteers will put in 12 hours of work
at the con. (if you want to do more, then that
is wonderful, but it is not
required)
-
This
will entitle you to a membership for $20.00, in
other words, LESS
THAN HALF the at-the-door
rate.
-
People who volunteer at the con (and who
haven't pre-registered) will pay the at-the-door
rate of $45.00. You'll be reimbursed for the
difference between the rate you paid and the
volunteer rate once you've worked your 12 hours.
-
You
can state your preference about where you'd like
to work, but some departments will already have
recruited volunteers ahead of time. Security
always needs people.
-
If
you want to be registered as a volunteer before
the con, then you have to get in touch with a
department head whom you'd work under and who
will vouch for you.
-
Volunteers are also entitled to attend
the Dead Dog Party at the end of the con, which
is for staff, guests and volunteers only.
